                      Hi Bryan,
The pressboard box it the defroster part of the assembly. If you recall you looked at mine when you were at the house.
                      Good luck, Mike Anderson (317)729-2418

bryan, do early 56s have the boxed in area for the heater in the engine compartment like later 56s, or is the area smooth like a 55? if smooth, i could see the pressboard box that is used in later 56s fitting into a 53-55 heater assembly if the plenum on the 53-55 heater assembly is removed. only problem would be that the screw area that would normally hold the pressboard box to the heater assembly would be hidden by the 53-55 large heater box. instead of a screw facing the passenger seat a screw would probably have to come from under the assembly to hold the two pieces together. you need to locate a early 56 survivor to see if there is a pressboard box.

as i stated to Gary i was told it used a 55 heater...this is getting pretty unclear just when i thought i knew what i was going to do...Gary has an earlier model.
i really am not sure, i did get a picure of another early 56 and it sure did look like the 54-55 heater ....
                            gary
if you have any picures of the pressboard box i would appreciate it..I may be coing thru Indy in the spring mayhaps i will see if you are around..

bryan, i seen gary's picture of the heater, but it appears to be on a restored car. you will have to ask gary if he is sure that it is the original heater. his is exactly like a 55. mike anderson, with car number 10, states his has a pressboard box. find out how original his car is(he left you a phone number.) in the meantime i will send you a picture of a pressboard box and the section of the heater assembly that it bolts to.
