do you have the squirrel cage assembly or is all you have is the heater core? if you don't have at least the squirrel cage assembly you best start looking for a 54 heater assembly on ebay. i have seen the whole assembly sold for a couple hundred dollars as recent as two weeks ago. i can provide you with pictures both on cars and with the assembly apart if you send me your email address.

BTW the round Y outlet that the defroster distribution hoses attach to was also used on passenger cars. I bet the top of the box was also the same. So you might check wrecking yards for 52-54 Chevy's.

i have the y outlet the motoer bolower housing. there is a pressboard box that was mounted onto the heater that the diffuser is connected to. This doesnt look anything like a passenger heater box. i purchased the assmbly diagrams for the 53-55 and they dont have pctures either.

i was told the 53 thru early 56 heater box was made from pressboard? The early 56 used 55 heaters. i have the heater but not the box. thanks

Nope, the outlet box on the 53-55 is metal. I can't speak for 56-57.

They are completely different animals - complete re-design when they went to outside air during the 56 production build. And I can tell you the 53-55s were pretty bad. In cold wet weather the inside would fog up so bad you could not see out - and if you wiped it down it would just fog up again almost immediately. -Dan -
