Re: More Black- Battery compartment/jack storage bin?
Joe
I know for sure that the deeper style storage bin was used till 1972 and maybe later then that. Have re-flocking many 1969 thru 1972 storage bin and they are the same depth. I have 3 here at the house a 1970 to 2 late 1971's for 1972 cars and they are the same depth as Capt. Donnally's. The Capt is also correct that 1968 and have seen several 1969 with rubber bumpers one 1969 I recall was a late Jan or Feb build.
Yes, I researched a bit more and I think that the deeper covers probably did continue through 1973. So, my post above is incorrect with respect to the assertion that the deeper were used only through "early" 1969.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

There are some differences between the 1968 and 1969 storage bins. In the pictures I attached you can see the differences.
They are both pressed fiberboard with the same depth as Mark shows in his picture. In 1968 the front of the bin is straight while in 1969 it is indented around the lock area. The 1968 also has a lip that runs all the way around the bin at the top. In 1969 this was changed and the lip was removed from the back side. I believe these changes were made to make it easier to remove from it's hole.
Both the 1968 and 1968 AIM show rubber bumpers being used on the bin, but neither my 68 or 69 has them.

I think I posted images of several "covers," as Chevrolet chooses to call them, in the past, but they don't show up in my posted image file, and I can not find them in my computer. I am pretty sure we have covered (no pun intended) the jack storage compartment tray in the past. While I keep looking these images of a storage compartment with the insulation in it were in my posted images file.
I think the NCRS Judging Reference Manual calls for a full deduction for that battery.Terry- Top

Thanks all- So my search begins for another partgood advice though, if i'm lucky to find one I will use for judging. I will contact Paragon to see what they offer as well as contact Norm.
Terry, I assume that is the insulation that was in lieu of the tray or is that what one would see if you removed the tray?- Top

Re: More Black- Battery compartment/jack storage bin?
Tray was still installed with the insulation -- the insulation makes the tray sooo much harder to get out, and it is hard enough without the insulation. You will see a lot of trays chewed up on the edges because they are so hard to get in and out. The 1969s with shoulder harness bolted to the side of the wheel housings keeps the lid(s) from opening all the way and makes the tray and battery R&R just sooo much moref fun. The purpose of these photos is to show the insulation so the tray was removed for photographic purposes.

P.S. My 88 wins the prize for Batt R&R, removing the lower vented body panel is how that bad boy comes out.- Top

Very interesting I was unaware that 1968 was flat at the center front do we know when the change occurred to the next design. Will have to contact my friend who is an original owner 1968 late July production what style tray he has.- Top
