C2 cast iron intake manifold paint help

My 63 300 hp has the cast iron intake manifold. I have painted this manifold several times and the paint burns badly after just a few months of driving the car. After repainting the manifold several times the paint build up makes the manifold look terrible. If I block the cross over in the manifold will it eliminate the burning of the paint? Will it cause any operating problems with the engine?

strip it and try some high temp paint. cast iron intake manifold don't work well with blocked heat risers as it is too slow warming up.

      Bob,

I use a brush applied coating of Kroil (WD40 is also good). Apply carefully and let sit on the headers for a couple of days...then fire it up and burn off the excess. The result is a near perfect cast iron appearance without any buildup. Yes, you may have to apply a couple of times a year depending on climate, but the result is excellent.

I think you changed the topic from intake to exhaust manifolds.

You might try first wiring open the heat riser valve. This is assuming your car will run ok that way which depends on where you live. Up north, you'll still need it for good warm up characteristics. Here in Florida, we can usually get away with either wiring it open or exchanging it for a fuelie spacer year around. What ever you do, don't block the passages specially with a cast iron intake on your LHP engine.

Agree with Clem. Try either VHT Orange Header Paint, or Bill Hirsch High Temp Chevy Orange. Not certain that either will provide a successful color match to the rest of your paint, but it is worth a try to solve your problem. Many of us just accept this problem and don't worry.
