The contour of the football and weights determine the shape of the curve. For the '63 distributors the "curve" is linear. The '67 300/350 HP curves are non-linear. There's a rule of thumb that about one degree advance should be added per thousand revs past the torque peak, and the '67 300/350 HP distirbutor somewhat achieves this. The peak is 30 @ 5100, but most of it is in by 3500.
Nevertheless, the lightest springs that you can find that don't cause detonation will likely yield the best performance and fuel economy.
