As for the design the cable is a pretty good connection to the control panel which is grounded and original cars the fan mounting is not painted on the attachment side so the grounding with the screw was probably fine.

    So here is what I did. Removed the blower motor/fan assembly then drilled a small hole through the fan housing and the Temp Control Valve bracket (the little arm where the capillary tube would have been) then put a screw through both. I don't have the fan back in yet, but I get good continuity with a meter.
