Re: Photos of 1960 Lemans car at Carlisle Please

I just sent Tom Russo a PM asking if he has any more info after his 2009 thread. Here are the pictures from his thread for easier comparison.....

It appears to be the same car.

        A google of "Zagato Longatto"...............

"The following information is posted on behalf of a third party
        by Corvette-web-central.com

The car was taken in late 1960 to hold as collateral for a large debt
        and placed in secure storage in early 1961. It was never retrieved;
therefore we now have legal title to same. The car has not been moved
from its current location since originally warehoused in 61. GM early
last year told us to look at specific locations for frame numbers, both
were where they stated, that being X53L stamped into the frame. We have
several emails from former GM employees that worked with Harvey Earl in
the early 50's and they tell us GM commissioned Zagato to provide the
design, and reportable Pininfarina made the body? They stated that the
car was labeled Zagato Longatto, hence the L in the serial #. They also
reported that this car was to be for the Pontiac line, not Corvette as
we assumed, in that experts from the Corvette Museum have extensively
looked at this car and they state that the frame is the same
configuration as that of a 1953 Corvette, with very, vary minor
modifications. The body is of heat molded fiberglass (WOVEN MAT), not an
open mold laid up type, and therefore it would have taken a
sophisticated body builder to produce a one of a kind type body that is
on this automobile. We don't think the tire rims are original, but who
knows? Recently Zagato has informed us that they will try to do some
research and get back to us, when remains a question? Other than what I
have stated herein, we know of nothing else about this unique car, that
is why we are seeking expert guidance and assistance to fully/completely
ID and document this automobile, if possible?"

Thats quite a story...I kinda doubt Zagato would ever own up to that body work...A "sophisticated body builder"?....Ya right. They did a real nice job on the gauge cluster...IMHO

Who is doing this "historical" posting? One look at the car tells you that any loan officer who took this as collateral on "a large debt" continued his banking career selling ice cream cones to kids.

Sounds like the family that sold it to Lance tried a different spin on it in 09 as the story was posted from Fla... They said the vin (X53L) is stamped in the frame in two different places,i wonder where that came from as it has the corvette vin now...

When this thing was unveiled at Lance Miller's house, what was the explanation for the goofy body? Was it supposed to be a wrecked LeMans racer from the windshield back with a Fiberfab front clip, or what? Its undercarraige looks oddly clean and rust-free in the Restorer photos for such a nasty body.

Looks like someone was trying to disguise it for some reason....Very interesting.
I doubt anyone from Zagato had anything to do with it...IMHO

Dominic probably "claimed" to have some documentation / pictures of the car. This is his MO in the past. As Dr Mike, mentioned avoid at all costs.
