I was wondering if anyone has had Quanta restore their half shafts and drive shaft and how they did in NCRS Flight judging? Thanks in advance Sincerely Brian

Re: Quanta Drive shaft restoration and judging
Based on the photos on their website of the completed product, I'd think they'd get a "finish" deduction for being so smooth and shiny.

Also try this link 1967 Corvette Driveshaft
See post #7, it is a restored drive shaft but close to what an original should look like.
Don't know where photo went. Some good info there.- Top

Re: Quanta Drive shaft restoration and judging
where to begin ................
They way over polish the shafts plus if you are unfortunate to own a 72 BB car, they will flaten out the "gator" roughness of the shafts.
Having said this ..
you can use the service to get a great starting point. Then take gray scotch-brite and rub the shine away and get the dull looking finish it should be.
You can emulate the shot peening somewhat.
Botom line, you get a deduct on finish using the service ...
Ask how I know... LOL

Re: Quanta Drive shaft restoration and judging
The driveshaft on my 67 had some serious rust pitting so I waited until Carlisle and found a nice original with almost no rust and all the balance weights and original u-joints still intact.
After I removed the u-joints I glassbeaded the shaft and taped the tube and sprayed a light spray of cast blast on the yokes. When the cast paint dryed I sanded the tube with some 220 wet then took some chrome paint and sprayed on a cloth along with some acetone and wiped the tube to apply very thin. The next day I used steel wool to smooth the surface and it lookes beautiful..
Installed the FM non greasable u-joints, painted the orange and olive green rings and placed a daub of bright green on the rear portion where it was originally to show the heavy side then installed it lined with the blue paint traces on the light side of the pinion yoke.
I did the halfshafts exactly the same but no orange and green paint and the rust was not nearly as bad so I re-used the original shafts but new F/M non greasable u-joints. This was a project that really needed to be done as one of the outside half shaft joints had rust powdered the needle bearings in the u-joint.- Top
