In 1962 and 1963 the passenger car 300 horse manual transmision 327 had an RB suffix.

I thought the 300 hp manual trans passenger car just had an R and could be used as a Corvette motor by adding another letter.

          Robert -

300hp manual trans. '62-'64 pass. cars used the "RB" suffix; the "R" suffix was used for '62-'64 250hp pass. cars with manual transmissions.

John, Isn't it generally believed that the 250 hp pass car engine was a Towanda cast and not a Flint, yet there was a Flint cast 870 "R" block on ebay a month back.

              Robert,

Depending on which Chevrolet model you bought the engine blocks came from either Flint or Tonawanda plant. If the Chevrolet was built in Flint Michigan you can be sure the heavy stuff came from the closest plant.

I think it was discussed here a while back that all crankshafts came from Tonawanda.

                Robert -

870 blocks were used in virtually all Chevrolet car and truck lines, and were cast at both Saginaw (for Flint V-8) and at Tonawanda. The only 327 block I'm aware of in that era that was cast only at Tonawanda was the 3858180.
