Good idea. I'll try that. I found 1 rubber plug and installed it in the 1/2" ID bottom heater tube but I only found that 1 size and it was too small for the 5/8" OD upper tube.

Even if you have no intention of participating in an originality based judging program, why skirt the problem?

Isolate the real source of your issue and correct it like the factory would have back in the day.

Polluting the pool with bubba fixes masking or disabling designed, intended and expected functions accopmlishes nothing but devaluation in the end...

I've had my share of both party cars and real deals... The time, effort and money wasted on BS half way fixes would have always been better spent keeping it real.

While this has been an interesting and informative discussion there are two questions that remain unanswered. What product or products are being used to replicated the factory "goop" and what's the application process? Thanks.

          Joseph,
I think Jerry Fucillo found a material that worked well; some sort of roofing cement. I used it on my 69 a couple of years ago but don't remember the brand or number.

            Joe,

I got your PM. Here's the stuff I used for the joints between the hood frame and hood underside on my 67:

It is a urethane roof flashing sealant. It is black, and it matches the engine comparment black out. I was surprised that I didn't have to paint it to match, but it can be painted.

In reviewing the above thread, I think it would be perfect for the heater box sealant.

Jerry, do you have a picture of the heater box area after you used the DAP product on it?

                  Chris,

I used it on my 67 hood, not the heater box. But I think it will work just as well on the heater box.

Take a look at this thread for the hood:

                  https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...=hood+adhesive

Still works great after five years, and quite a few miles on the road.

Think areosol, not tube or finger caulk; also consider typical installation angle.

Maybe try that spray-on Flex Seal, that they advertise for gutters. Probably invented by an ex-AO Smith worker
