Ron, Look in your 1967 AIM under L36 and you will indeed find the clip on the passenger side of the front carb bolt/nut. Item #9 Part #3846117
Also this clip and the carb among other items was NOT installed at Tonawanda, but on the engine trim line in St Louis. The manifold had a plate in place of the carb to prevent gum wrappers etc from being dropped into the engine during transit and storage......

Steve, not sure but I expect you missed the point.

3846117 is a straight J clip as worded by Chevrolet in the 66 AIM, in the Chevy parts books of 1967 vintage, and perhaps other sources----NOT the L36 part at all per urban myth as that's all this can be with out positive proof.

The step clip that is suggested for the L36 has no known documentation, as in a part number, iff as it is stated by the sellers of the repro part, 3846117 is the straight version.

Look at the threads on this topic, there are two this one and one referenced two posts back, and perhaps a more recent thread.

All completely inconclusive what is what.

If you study closely the 66 AIM, this clip has been erased and re written, meaning along the way there were changes.

You cannot make any conclusions from restored cars because they put whatever part on someone told them too. Both parts are available as repro. So what is the step clip's mysteriously missing part number? What was its real application?

Was the step clip the original - one for all 390 & 425 as John has suggested and along the way it got changed to the flat J clip?

      Who has the drawings?

Ron, I am looking at my 1967 CORVETTE AIM. You refer to a 1966 version. The AIM page I referred to has a revision note date 10/27/66. The clip is even drawn with a bend in it. The clip on my 1967 L36 is original. I've owned this car since 1982 so I believe the clip to be original. If you feel that your car should NOT have the clip because it is a 1966 then go for it. There were/are many changes between a 1966 and a 1967 of which this appears to be one.

Re: 1967 427/390 hp pcv hose bracket

Steve, I believe in facts backed up with prints, revisions included. The part you reference 3846117 as sold by bigbox stores is a straight J clip. It will NOT fit. Tried it, the air cleaner on a 390HP intake will not sit down where it is supposed to sit. Its a NO-GO 100%.

Now - the double bend clip - part number ??? works as it holds the hose lower so the air cleaner, common part stamping to 100% of the open air cleaners for Chevy 1965 to 1972, can sit on the carb.

How it is drawn for 1967 AIM...same as the 1966 AIM L72 (nothing shown for the L36)--- hard to say how that compares to the real part.

So - for every Corvette produced, there were a pile more metal Chevies, I pulled out a 67 Chevelle AIM, and ...

This aim is better drawn that Corvette AIMS of the sale years, most all items are typed up versus hand written.

Someone - just someone has the print, and can probably tell you who the supplier "O" is. Don't forget, back then, most all these parts were made very close to these states, MI OH IN that were heavily invested in the automotive parts supply.

This clip 3846117 clearly shows the double bend down but open up clip - completely opposite to how the double bend clip has been reproduced.

Ron, the key word in your argument is "reproduction" (big box stores)... need I say more? That is why you should attempt to use original equipment

Until there is a print shared, even off line, we don't know for sure what the answer is.

The straight clip is on a lot of 425 cars, but the argument of an aluminum intake fails rational test in that the plane that the clip attaches is the same in relation to the air cleaner.

Is it the consensus that the 66/67 427's used the double bend clip?

Ron, check out LICS online catalog. I believe you will find that there are 3 "clips" for this application over the C2 series.
The 1966/425 is a straight clip while the 66-67 390 uses the double bend clip as well as a right angle single bend clip.......

Ron, to follow up on the clip controversy, take a look in "Vette Vues Fact Book of the 1963-1967 Sting Ray by M.F. Dobbins" published in 1982. Dobbins shows an example on page 160 of a 1967 427/390 engine with a "double bend" clip for the PCV hose. On page 128 is a photo of a 1966 427/390 with a "flat clip". Both are mounted under the right forward carb bolt. Additionally 1966 427/390 had another clip on the left side of the engine under a manifold bolt supporting the PCV hose as shown on page 128. Neither engine had options like PB or AC......

You also have to look back at this thread, and the other referenced. John said no to two clips, and no to the double bend down, Michael also weighed in. Even though in Dobbins book, if the only service part was the "J" clip as shown in the 67 service books, then by the time his book was written you could have more than 12 years of wrong parts coming out in service.

A drawing would clear this up.

One of these guys now missing would also know who that supplier was with the O identifier.
