No pad thread would be complete without this one stamped in Fonawanda....

After tracking down the previous owners, we know the original block with that stamp was blown up within 6 months of a B-52 pilot at Malstrom AFB taking delivery of the car new. Yes, a re-stamp by a master, but just too good and perfect. Microscopic exam of the VIN derivative shows how even the alignment and perfect the depth of all the numbers are, NTFP. Numbers match is not the same as the real deal.

Michael-- Your point is well taken. However, I don't think good placement and uniform depth are unique to a restamped block. The pictures I posted were of an original factory stamping and it was done pretty neatly also.

True, there are some very neat and good looking original stamps, but the judges tell me that perfection makes them suspicious to begin with, not sure that is universal by the judges though. This one passed several times.

Keep in mind that the rules regarding judging revolve around a component or feature being 'typical of factory production' and not establishing or certifying authenticity.

Absolutely, the judges would never certify anything as authentic, they leave that job to the dealers and sellers

Good productive discussion, I've certainly been able to learn a few things from it!
