      Cathey:
Its hard to say when these press fit balancers are on all the way, especially from a picture. Here is a picture of a running '60 fuely that shows the vibration damper doesn't always go on as far as you might guess, but it still functions. That being said, please remember in these early years without the bolt, theres a risk of the balancer coming off at speed and wrecking havoc.

How do I press it on further?

          Nope,
          Not even close,

If you don't have a threaded crank shaft then you have to do it the old fashon way with a block and a 2lb hammer. The thrust bearing is large and can handle it,
and as the english say on their cars" drive it on home gently with a malet".

You will hear it when it is there but concider tapping your crank and pulling it on as the modern world does.

            Hi Cathy,
I agree with Domenic. Not on far enough.
Also a reminder to be sure to install the 1/8" thick Harmonic balancer spacer first

              Re: 1956 265 balancer

In addition to the parts being 50 years old and the press fit, being loose, the 1/8" spacer makes the fit potentially looser. Based on past experience, I will never again put a early motor together without tapping the crank and installing a bolt. As far as the fit in the first picture, because of the spacer, the gap even when the balancer is on may look to wide. Follow Domenic Tallarita's advice.

Thanks all! I'm going to line it up with the water pump pulley.

Cathy- Be sure that the balancer is on the crank as far as it will go. Then make the water pump pulley line up, by using shims or have your water pump rebuilder move the flange as needed.

                      Cathy -

If you continue to press that one in place, the lip on the timing cover seal isn't going to like the rough paint surface on the OD of the balancer hub.
