    1972 door handle finish (inside)

What finish is on the inside of the door handles on a 1972?

Is it chrome similar to the outside or is it a frosted silver finish?

      Hi Paul

I found this thread regarding a 1971 car.

Was the '71 different then the '72?

        High Jerry

No they were the same if you have the frosted finished ones you can remove that finish with acetone or lacquer thinner if that helps.

          Hi Jerry,
I read the mention of 'frost' in the thread you linked, to refer to the fact that the chrome plating in the 'bowl' of the handle wasn't buffed, so it had a 'frosted' appearance compared to the chrome's appearance on the bowl's edge/reveal and the flapper.
          Regards,
          Alan

Alan is correct the plating inside the handle was not buffed but it was plated later handles had a silver painted finish applied hence my suggestion to use acetone or lacquer thinner to remove it.

FYI - I believe the handles with the frosted finish inside the handle started in 1974. Could be wrong, but do not think I am.

Paul/Alan, it appears the bowls have been painted, but the bowls do have a distinct 1/8" of polished chrome on the vertical surfaces. The finish under the paint looks like polished chrome and I am therefore concluding they are service replcements or repo's.Question: I assume on a correct original handle the entire bowl is then a non-buffed chrome finish. Correct?Attached are a couple pix's

Do what Paul suggests - remove silver paint with lacquer thinner and they'll judge fine. Worked for me on my '73 at Regional and National.

                    Hi Jerry,
For some reason I'm unable to open your attachment.
Here's a picture of the chrome finish on one of the handles from my 71, (46k).
The 'lip' is polished and brite, but the entire bowl is unpolished to my eye.
                    Regards,
                    Alan

                      Hopefully this will worK.

I think under the frosted area of the bowl will be polished chrome and not the unpolished like yours.

Jerome, I had a set of GM handles that had the satin finish inside and after the removel of the paint its just like a flash chrome on the inside of handles.
