Looking at the receipts in the listing, they paid a PILE of money after the restoration to get some things fixed.

Anybody have an estimate of value for this car in today's market assuming the seller understands this is a NOM 'restoration block' car? Obviously not 100k but certainly still significant amount

The auction has completed. Almost 15k in freshening up and mechanical work.

About the same as a comparable condition small block that has matching engine, if you are lucky

Without supporting provenance what is to say it was born a BB? When we were actively in the restoration and parts business, we saw evidence of a lot of "made" cars.

No doubt it could be, especially without docs, but remember it's "numbers matching" anyway, I could see the ad now at that dealer....

In the past few years I have inspected quite a few '65-'67 "Big Block" cars. Well over 50% of the cars inspected never left St. Louis with a big block engine. Several had no attempt to conceal the fact that they were never big blocks, I.E. rear sway bars.

Doesn't surprise me at all, and ain't it the truth? You live and learn in this hobby, too bad it takes all that "learning".

Were the owners claiming they were real BBs, and if so, what did you tell them?

As an appraiser, if you are follow USPAP and the association Code of Ethics, you are not an advocate for either party, the potential buyer, or the seller. It is your duty to give your unbiased opinion regardless of the outcome.

I lost a very good friend about twenty years ago because of an inspection. A good friend had a '67 400 hp AC convertible, red/red and wanted to sell it. I was commissioned by a potential buyer from the West Coast to inspect/appraise the car. Long story short car had a bogus trim tag, restamped engine, epoxy casting date on the block, and probably added AC. I included all this info in my report/appraisal. Seller got mad, even though he bought the car restored and had done nothing but wax it. Has not spoken to me since about 1990 or so.
