    I'd like another angle.

VIN numbers not aligned as I'd expect, and the 5's appear different than I recall.
There appear to be diagonal marks from block surfacing and on top of that it appears that there are added "broach marks."

I would be cautious (that's the nice way to say it.... )

The two ones are out of alignment compared to "typical" factory gang stamp. overall spacing looks wide...?

Thanks for the comments. I thought it looked... well... 'hinky' is a word that comes to mind so I asked the seller about any engine history... got the 'why do you ask' response, said I was thinking just might/maybe/possible/offside-chance be a 'replacement block' and the fireworks started. So I ended with excuse me, clearly I was very wrong So was looking for a reality check! That's the only photo I have but I think it speaks loudly

Nothing gets a Corvette owner or seller's blood boiling faster than accusations of a NOM.

I am 100 precent certain that if somone that have experience with stamping can stamp a engine pad so there is no way any can say if it is the original engine or not.
The world have moved forward during the late 60`s

Have a look at a engine on ebay and send a email if they have a engine which is casted this or that day and you get the reply if you want the engine stamped

I'll say this, I recently was looking at a 66 SS 396 Chevelle, stamp looked o/k, but, my friend took a picture with his camera, loaded it on his laptop, expanded it and you could just barely see a letter H was changed to an F. You would never with the enaked eye see this.

So, today's modern tech camera / laptop, etc. is a great tool.

And the bottom line is always, without paperwork it's still a judgement call.

The car received a silver at Bloomington in 1991. Maybe the judging sheets are available.

Probably blocked out from getting a Gold because of the stamp.

Best declare non original. That is one bad stamp job. Hope the guy didn't pay much for that stamp job or it was one of those " Can you bleave I did it myself with the rentastamps.com" LOL

True, but it could always be as one very large and well known Corvette dealer advertises, "numbers match", they just don't tell you until later is is not "The Real Deal".
