    70 timing tab pic needed

I have looked everywhere including a search of this forum for a picture of a correct timing cover and tab for a 70 LT-1. I believe all 70 SB used the same cover as they all had the 8 inch balancer. I have found most years but nothing definitive on the 70 tab. Could someone post a picture of what you know to be a correct 70 cover and tab?

    Thanks

Do you have a photo of a 1969 Corvette small block timing tab? 1969 is the same as 1970.

      Hi Steve,
The Fourth Edition of the 70-72 TIM/JG has a photo that shows both the 70 and 71-72 tabs.
It's not a real clear picture, but may be enough to help you to know what to look for.
      Regards,

I do not have a picture, but I do know 68 thru 70 is one configuration and that 71 & 72 are another. Also. I am of the opinion that they were painted orange as they were installed on the engine when painted at Flint.

I'm of the opinion that they were either taped off or wiped off.

Reading above I think you can see why I continue to be confused. I believe I currently have a 68 and it looks quite different then any other photo I have seen of what is said to be a 69/70 as it is long and extends over the edge of the cover. I have read where they were changed in 69 through 70 and then again in 71?

Patrick, is this a picture of a 70 as it looks nothing like any other information I have seen. I do not have access to the books mentioned although I have many books on the C3 and have purchased a few here.

I have seen several conflicting photo's and was hoping to get a definitive answer here - does anyone have a 70 that can post a photo or if Patrick has already done so, thank you and I need to start a whole new search.

Pictured below is a 69-70 Camaro timing cover with 8" balancer. The covers have a stamped date code.

1972 - I was only showing it for color (or lack thereof), not configuration.

The tab on my 70 SB looks like the one shown by Dave:

                    Pat,

That photo looks to be the correct configuration for a 68 thru 70.

Thanks Ron, I thought so, but it's good to hear someone else say so.

                        All------

Attached is a photo of a guaranteed original late 1969 small block timing tab. I believe this same tab was used for 1970. I'm not so sure about 1968, though. If it was used, it was used only for L-79 inasmuch as the 1968 base engine used a ~6" balancer.

By the way, ALL 1969-70 350 CID small blocks with 4 barrel carburetor used 8" balancers and the pictured timing tab. This includes Corvettes and all other Chevrolet models as well.DSCN2690.jpg

Thanks that is just what I needed.
I can start another thread unless someone happens to get this next question - What is the width of a 8" balancer for a 70 LT-1?

Thanks Joe, thats what I thought. I have two with one being less wide and I wanted to be 100%.
