Leaf Spring Stiffness 4- vs 5-leaf

Hi all,

Since I drive my '60, I'd like stiffer springs on the back. I put on some wider radial tires for better rain traction and now they rub over bumps. Before I take them off, I'd like to try stiffer springs.

I was thinking of purchasing a pair of the repro five leaf springs, but I was wondering how much stiffer they are than the four leaf? Or is there an aftermarket spring that would be stiffer?

I would go with a dial-in shock that way you can adjust to your likeness and it is much cheaper..

But what do I know...

Bob, I installed a quick steering adapter and an extra leaf (totalling 5) on my '57 in 1965 to raise the rear for my 7.75's and offset 6" wheels (California rake ). I also autocrossed it. The extra leaves are still on it and I don't mind the ride but it is very hard and 99% of drivers would not like it. If you add the leaf be certain to have good seat belts and be prepared to bounce around a bit.
