    Finally Found and Restored a 7041213 Q-jet for my '71 :)

After almost 9 months of looking, I found a 7041213 DM for my Jan '71 350/270 4spd Coupe.

The carb on the car was a 1705 service replacement from the later 70s or so, and was getting pretty tired. The difference is amazing to say the least.
The 704 was missing a float bowl vent tube and the vacuum choke diaphram, but was otherwise intact and appeared to have never been apart.
The Julian Date is 2310, which I know is kind of a stretch, but it was the only one I could find that was late-ish in 1970. I found several that were Jan/Feb 71, but I kept looking.
I sent it out to http://customrebuiltcarbs.com/ in NJ for their version of a Show Quality Restoration ($365), and couldn't be happier with their work.

    Here are a couple pics.

That looks nice and seems like a good price. I have a Jan. 71 with #6365. AC.PS,PB,4 speed and it looks very similar to yours only white with blue interior. Is your car earlier or later than mine? Paul
      It's a good life!

I'm a little embarassed about the condition of the intake manifold in the pictures.

The old S/R Q-jet was obviously leaking, but this is the time of year for driving, not painting.

I had Custom Rebuilt Carbs do the original from my 71 LS5. It came out great and I had to do very little adjustments to it once installed.

              Hi Mark,
              Carb looks very nice.
My car is just a bit later in January... #6589, with a F14 Trim Tag. So your car, Paul's car, and mine, are with in a week or so of each other.
              Regards,
              Alan

                Mark,
I don't think your carb date is a stretch. There was a strike in the fall of 1970 that stopped production 67 days.

That was my guess Mike, but not being knee-deep into the finer points, after almost 10 months of looking I went with the latest 1970 Julian date I could get my paws on.

                    Hi Mark,
I know what you mean. Those early model year 1971 carbs seem very hard to find. For my '71 automatic, the ONLY 7041212 carb I found that would fit my E14 build date was 2020, and that was back in 2002 (these numbers are getting a bit confusing!). Thanks to strong prodding by a Corvette carb and fuel injection expert, I bought it. It's the only correct carb for my car I've ever seen with a date earlier than mid-December 1970. Like you, I've seen a lot of January and February 1971 carbs, but nothing earlier. Oddly enough, my master cylinder and my starter (both original to the car) also have similar July 1970 dates. I think you are pretty lucky to have your carburetor and, if you think it's a "stretch", well, it's so much better than nothing at all!

                    Randy C.
