I thought the strut rod bracket was the same for the '63 to '79 rears except for the sheet metal pieces welded under the '63 style for unknown reasons. I need a replacement for a friend's 67 who is removing the adjustable strut rods and the aftermarket bracket that came with it. I see on E bay that a lot of 'em are listed as '68 to '79. So what's the diff?

Norris------
You need a GM #3817827 bracket. This bracket is applicable to 1963-67. It was discontinued without supercession in 1984 and I do not think it's reproduced. So, you'll have to look for a used example.
1968-74 used bracket GM #3931805 and 1975-79 used bracket GM #356932. The latter will also SERVICE 1968-74 as the only difference is that it has an extra tab with hole for the 75+ catalytic converter shield. Both of these are discontinued, too. The 68-79 brackets are not correct for any 1963-67.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

All------
By the way, the attached photo shows the difference between the GM #3931805 (68-74) and the GM #356932 (75-79). The 3931805 does not have this "tab" and the 356932 (pictured) does. Otherwise, they are identical.

Just to refresh the memory for those watching, picture of sheet metal welded onto '63 up to mid-64 (?) can be seen in this link (also found in "similar links" feature, below). I thought they were for heat shielding from the exhaust pipe.
