    67 ammeter

A couple of questions for checking this gauge connection with the dash removed.....

    1. What voltage should show on the 2 connector wires ( battery connected.. gauge not connected) ?

    2. Should the harness be grounded for this test?

......just trying to isolate my problem to wiring or gauge

    Thanks!

    Ralph -

A VOM should show battery voltage on both terminals in the battery gauge connector; the black wire goes to the big battery cable stud on the starter solenoid, and the black/white wire goes to the screw terminal buss on the horn relay - both are hot all the time, key on or off. Both wires go through the multiple connectors on the engine side of the fuse block, and corrosion or terminal push-out in those connectors is not unusual.
