    Where does this spring go?

While working under the car today I found this little spring with one end broken off. What you see is about 3" long. It was hanging from the clutch linkage. What is it and where does it go? Can you buy them?

Believe it to be the anti rattle spring for the shifter handle! Attaches to one side of the shifter handle to keep a little tension on the shifter handle and keep it from rattling.

There should be two identical--one on each end of the clutch rod from bell crank to fork.

        Rev Mike,

That would be correct if we were talking C-2's. Think he has a 62 C-1. If he has a couple of springs he's got the wrong push rod. 62's had a threaded rod on one end and a lock nut with a spring on the other for the clutch fork.

Your probably correct that it is the spring for the push rod being that it was hanging on the push rod in the first place. There is a slot on the clutch fork for one end of the spring and a small notch on the push rod for the other.

I think I found it in the AIM Section 6, Sheet 6. Part number 3713738. CC has them for $2.95. Appears to attach to the clutch fork and then to the rod. Is that right? This is an early 62 vette.

            JR,

This is a new 3760384 spring for a 58-63 transmission control. It looks different than John's spring.

Looks like a broken clutch return spring to me.

Return spring, no, anti-rattle spring, yes. Return spring on a 62 is a "Godzilla" spring.
