    1972 A/C Drier

I removed my receiver-drier from my '72. I've searched the archives quite a bit so I'm pretty sure it's not an original drier, just wanted to make sure.

Also, does the current Delco replacement have the same appearance as the original?

    Thanks for the help

The one pictured is not an original piece or, even, a GM or Delco replacement.

The current GM and Delco piece is GM #3046236. It has been the replacement part number for more than 25 years. It is not configured exactly like the original but is as close as you're going to get unless you can find an NOS GM #3012944.

          Thanks Ed,

That's exactly what I was looking for! I've seen lots of C2 drier pics, but that's the first actual C3 picture I've seen.
It looks a lot like the current Delco replacement, 3046236. Did you rebuild your old one, or purchase a new one?

            Chris,
I replaced it. I just had the car judged in Novi and did not lose any points for the replacement.

              Great info, thanks.

              Off topic, but....
Do you have your a/c original hoses, or did you rebuild/replace? Mine are original, but I have rubber wearing off on one spot down to the first cord on the low pressure return. Still trying to figure out what to do, repros are not the same at all.

All are original, except for the hose coming off the compressor manifold near the exhaust.

There's an NOS 3012944 on eBay right now (link)

There's also a new 3046236 so you can compare (link)

                    Thanks Wayne,

That's really helpful, a great way to compare them.

                      Re: 1972 A/C Drier

I have here a drier removed from a 72 (complete with overspray from a repaint) that appears much like Ed's but with some differences. The letters EVAP and COND appear to be stamped instead of raised. And the letters on the bottom are different (date/mfg codes perhaps?). Debating if this is an original and should be taken to be rebuilt or should I toss it and buy a replacement?

The rebuild is only a O- ring and a new desiccant PAC.

There is a company here in Fort Worth that will cut it open, replace the desiccant pack and weld it back together for me. Question is whether or not this unit is a 1972 original. If not original, then it would be a waste of money to do that.

                            Sorry,
My post was wrong, I should have looked at the pics closer! I have a 74 Laguna S3 and it is rebuildable. It can be taken apart on the work bench and re done.

The VIR (Valve In Receiver) system in your 1974 does have a rebuildable receiver/dryer. Corvette got this system in 1973 or 1974.
