    '65-67 P-o-P's on eBay

Seller has posted at least 20 Protect-o-Plate & warranty booklets ranging from $600 to $1000 each (buy-it-now). Trouble is (IMO) virtually no description, few/poor quality pics.

Any thoughts ? If they're the real deal, what is seller's strategy here ?

Here's a typical one; click on "see other items" for the rest.

Not sure what he is trying to do.

I bought a 72 BB vert from him on ebay about 3 years ago. Flew up to get the car and it had old body work that he chose not to tell me about over the phone and via emails. Had some nasty looking fiberglass in the door jambs below the windshield pillars so it probably had some type of serious birdcage rot. I flew home without the car.

This is the fellow who offered his collection with very little description over on the other Forum for something like $40,000 a few months ago. I had listed a few quality paper items for sale on Ebay about 2 months ago and he contacted me like he was the Garu of Corvette paper collectors. I sent him a reply and never heard from him again. The items he has currently for sale have no real value as he provides no useful descriptions. I'd be very cautious when dealing with this seller.

I may have gotten cheated, but I got no owner's pin with my 1969, nor with my 1970. I coudl buy one of the 1969 owner's cards he has for sale for $500 just to get the pin I missed out on. Or should I complain to Chevrolet? Lol

          Terry,
You did not gat cheated. Owner's Pins stopped in 1966. This seller just amazes me with his listings. I think he believes that some buyers are interested in a certain bridge just outside New York City.

I have always wanted a Corvette Owner's Pin, but I knew I wasn't eligible. I guess I will have to settle for the two Owner's Cards I have, or put the 1969 one up on eBay.

Bridges and Islands. Sounds like the idyllic life to me. I will contact you guys right after I sell all the stuff in the garage on eBay.

Just a little off topic: Question: AFAIK POP's started in 65 (Correct me if I'm wrong). In what year was the last one issued?
                Thanks; Larry

If any of these were for your car, you might be willing to take a chance on authenticity.

I believe 1972 was the last year for PoP, but it would be prudent to wait for someone more schooled in 1973 > Corvettes to confirm that.

Some people collect old coins, some old stamps, and some old oil paintings. Scott Oliver started collecting and buying original paper work for Corvettes some years ago. He also has been buying and selling Corvette engines and cars. Recently he went through a nasty divorce and is trying to cash out and trying to raise some money to settle up on his commitments.

I have looked at the P-O-P's he has and they are original. Like anything else they have a value. This is no different than Jack Podell having the original FI unit for sale for a 1965. If an original owner wants to buy Podell's FI unit or Scott's P-O-P he can. If he doesn't so be it.

Scott is good business man and I having been buying Corvette parts from him for a long time. I find him to be fair and honest.

If anyone has questions please feel free to call me.

I am the person that has the Protect-O-Plates listed on Ebay. This is not a thread highjacking since most comments are directed towards me and the authenticity of the Corvette paperwork. Wayne, To answer your question my strategy is to sell original paperwork to Corvette enthusiast whether they use it for NCRS judging, memorabilia, etc. This is a collection that spans 20 years and every piece is guaranteed original which were obtained from the Chevrolet Dealerships, Owners, or reputable literature dealers.

Gary Haftel, made his own determination with no Corvette restoration experience that my 1972 Corvette had been involved in prior accident with poor repair. I challenge anyone to make your own judgement as the car is at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Dave, Here is my quoted email to you. Scott: "Would you consider selling the original for $150? I am not the current owner but have been collecting original Corvette paperwork for over 20 years. The collection is on display at the Vette Museum in bowling Green and this paperwork would make a great addition."

Dave's Response: "I do not have the original. Just a photocopy which is nice but certainally not an original. It is really useful for people to see what was on one of these as I have never seen a copy or an original over the years. I am about to put up some 54 Chevrolet Corvette factory items, 57 Welcome & owners kit pieces and a 58 welcome kit piece with 1958 on it. (I've been collecting for 20 years and have never seen one of these)and have some original documentation ((dealer invoice and warranty folder) for a 57 Fuel Injected vette.
I'm just trying to decide how to list them. I can email you if you think you may have some interest.
Like you I have a 20 year collection of Corvette and Chevrolet paper and other items which I'm thinking of selling off.
Thanks for the inquiry, Dave Strickland."

How do my items have no real value? Did I sound like the Guru of paperwork? Why would you be very cautious of me?

Maybe because we have the same types of paperwork for sale...
