Can the rubber portion of the crank handle be successfully redyed so it does not crack or popoff with use? Anyone done this before? I've been unsuccessful so far in locating a NOS set of white vent window cranks, so I was wondering........?

Al:
I have read where folks installed new/replacement vinyl knobs on their old handles. They immersed the handles in boiling water to soften the vinyl knob, then removed it. Did the same with the reproduction handles or the reproduction knobs. Then installed the correct color knobs while the vinyl was still hot.
I have not personally tried this, but it should work. A lot of trouble when good quality reproductions are available (as Gene stated above). Check the archives for information. I will also look for the article.

EDIT: I did a quick search under "window crank handles". One of many threads: https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...+crank+handles
