1967 Radio Tag- AIM says GM 3844066 changed to GM 3886966 on 1-19-67, JG says 3844066

The revision record in the 1967 AIM (UPC U69-A2) says Item 17 tag WAS 3844066 tag, dated 1-19-67. The 1967 JG (page 35) says this GM 3844066 tag is the correct radio tag. The new tag, which was used through at least early 1969, was GM 3886966. But was the old tag (GM 3844066) used on ANY 1967 Corvettes?

The printed instructions on the earlier 3844066 tag read in part:

    "Optimum Frequency Modulation
    Reception Will Be Obtained
    After Adjusting The Antenna
Mast To A Height Of 30 Inches"

Since all 1967 model year Corvettes had FIXED MAST antennas, the instructions on the earlier radio tag would not be relevant, but according to the AIM, it was used until at least 1-19-67. Should a January 11th car have the earlier tag, or did all Corvettes from the start of 1967 production use the later GM 3886966 tag used through 1969E?

    Scott,
Your question is a good one and we may never get an exact answer. Many corvette enthuiasts never even knew there was a change over in radio tags in 1967 let alone when it occurred. Camaro had an AM/FM radio in 1967 and that serves as a research point but I've never seen anything from the Camoro people about that. I had a very original May 67 Camaro (AM/FM) that came with the later tag. I've been doing resaearch on this topic for a while and have not been able to identify any changeover date.
My thought would be is the approximate changeover point was late January 1967. Any tags used prior to that time would be the early style and possibly the early tags were used until mid February until inventory was exhausted. After mid February the second design tag was used.
Just for clarification the early tags were yellow and had printing on both sides. The second design tag was a pale yellow (manilla color) and had printing on only 1 side. 1968 and 1969 AM/FM cars used the pale yellow tag. 1970 and beyond did not use a radio tag.

      Dave,

Thanks very much for the reply. From what you're saying, I should have the earlier tag (GM 3844066) on a Jan. 11th, 1967 Corvette. That makes sense according to the change-date in the AIM, and satisfies the JG.

What I don't understand is why would they have used a Radio Instruction tag for a telescoping power antenna (instructing the owner to extend the antenna to a mast height of 30 inches for best reception) on cars with a FIXED MAST antenna?

There was no way for the new 1967 Corvette owner to comply with the radio tag instructions. Is this just a case of following the production-line routine or habit of installing the tag under the Tuner knob on every Corvette with RPO U69, regardless of whether the instruction tag was applicable or not?

        Scott,
The second design tag makes no mention of a mast height. The earlier tag directs the owner to adjust the telescoping antenna to 30 inches to get optimum reception for FM stations.
Maybe the change in tags was due to the introduction of the fixed antenna but it took them a few months to finally do it.

We all get it, What Scott was asking was why would GM put a tag that said to ajust the antenna when it was fixed on ALL 1967 CORVETTES.

I know what Scott was asking and I provided a logical answer to the question. Maybe you should read what I said again.
