    1960 Block

I have recovered a block from a guy who claims this block came with my car, which he removed in the 70's to rebuild, however there is not a VIN on the stamp pad only the Engine info.

My car came off the line in Oct 1959 should it have a VIN on the block as well.

Al, I am not a expert C1 guy, But I believe the early 60 cars did not have the VIN stamped in the pad, post your VIN no. so some of the C1 guys can help you.

      Al,

I would recommend getting the Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide from the NCRS store. While you're waiting for it to arrive, post all the numbers on your block (casting numbers, casting date, etc). Or better yet, post pictures. Meanwhile, folks more knowledgeable on your year should chime in soon.

        Al,

There may be some newer guidelines, but a while back up to approximately VIN # 1800 no VIN - VIN # 1801 to approximately VIN # 5394 3/16" characters using no gang - approximately VIN # 5395 to end of production 5/32" characters held in a gang. Someone who is more current may correct these guidelines as necessary but it's a place to start.

The latest car that I've documented without the VIN is #1135 and the earliest I've found with the VIN is #1322. :Let us know your VIN. I hope this helps.

VIN # is 101173. I think the car was built in OCT or NOV. However the block was casted in July. I have pick up the block yet but its a Flint block with the 270hp

Al, that VIN would make it a Nov 59, maybe the first week, block according to NCRS Spec guide that I have.

So now the question is.. did blocks for cars built in Nov 59 have the VIN stamped on them.

That falls into the "unknown" area I've established. Please post a pic. of the pad when you get the motor. It may help narrow that window a bit. What is the assembly date stamped on the block? A July casting in a Nov. car is very unusual.

Car #1135, built 10-30-59 did not have the VIN stamped on it. Car #1322, built 11-16-59 does.
