Re: Fuel inj distributor oil issue

Jerry, The oil restrictor that John is talking about is in the distributor casting at bottom of the 1/8" tapped hole for the brass elbow. If I remember correctly it is under 1/16". Years ago some guys would drill restrictor hole out to get "more Oil" to drive gears, thinking that more was better. The "KEY" is small oil restrictor, good shaft seal, & clear drain back hole at bottom. Sometimes I would solder enlarged hole & redrill to smaller size. Barry Holmes

No way to cool that oil Clemster. Might work on a street engine for short trips, but the pump drive off that shaft would generate quite a bit of heat in a race situation.

OK, things are becoming clearer. The restrictor in the casting has been drilled out. So i have a hole that passes 4 times what was designed for. I will solder up the current hole in the fitting that acts as a restrictor and drill it out with a 1/16 drill. Thank you Jerry

the post above uses grease which i would not think would stand up like high temp rear gear lube.

if there is enough material i would install a screw in restrictor as solder may not hold up. if you want to do it your way i would braze the hole shut and then redrill

OK. I had some help from Don Baker here to figure out what I was REALLY looking at and seeing. I do have the restrictor in the casting. It's a 1/8 in opening that feeds into a groove on the pump drive cross shaft. So with the restrictor in place and the drain clear the logical place to look is the seal and the bushing. on ward and upward.

Jerry, It might be easier to solder the hole in the tapered end of the brass elbow, then drill to size. If no good modify a new brass elbow.

I agree 100% with Barry and Clem. REDUCE the size of the restrictor hole.
My personal choice would be to drill, tap and install a plug, then drill a small hole in the threaded plug.
Also, one thing that I haven't seen mentioned (maybe I just missed it), replace the original style open bearing with a bearing that has a seal on one side (seal toward upper housing).
