What is the correct way to install a windsheild in my 63, use the rope method, or use a plastic spoon around the rubber gasket to install? maybe someone has seen this done or has installed there own.

I used the rope method on a coupe.

Suppose it could be done however have not heard of the spoon method. Seems labor intensive but the way to go is the rope method and a helper placing pressure on the glass.

Mike,Paul Thanks for the response could one of you tell me where you start the rope and end it, I am thinking starting at the bottom and ending at the bottom,is this correct?

I have a windsheild try to install the windsheild with plastic type spoon from the outside but the weatherstrip did not seat correctly on the bottom so we removed and was going to try the rope method next week.

Overlap at the bottom. Work out from there.

Ed, I have used the rope method, starting at the bottom and working my way up both sides at the same time in order to maintain even pressure across the windshield.

Have a friend push the windshield from the outside when installing

If you have a new weatherstrip seal and they are usually very hard you can put it in how water and it will be much more easy to work with

As others have stated starting at the bottom is best. Be sure when inserting the rope into weatherstrip you cross the rope ends over each other, then start pulling from bottom. Top corners are typically the most difficult....go slow and be patient, you don't want to tear the w/s. Your assistant will need to put pressure on wind shield from exterior. I choose to place the windshield sealant into channel (along w/rope) before the install (messy but doable). It can be done afterward....this is just how I do it.

Hi Ed, here is the post on my windshield install last month on my 66

He used the rope and it took just a few mins. Lots of pictures in post
