I just took out the radio , clock and glove box and noticed a gap between the heater box and the defrost vent . Looks like about 1/2 inch. I was looking in my repair book but didn't see if their was a rubber gasket required or not. The insulation is also in poor repair. . Thanks for any comments.

Wayne I noted the same on my 63 conv. I think they were pretty crude,I Did not see any signs of a seal when I took my interior and heater apart.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Wayne, if you have a Home depot or Lowes, get yourself some of the foam weatherstrip sealer, It comes in all different sizes and widths. The duct tape may show once together.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

The gap described is "as intended". Owner inspired modifications are as always at the owners discretion.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Actually, when comparing the "official seal kit" for my vette I bought, the "regular" weatherstripping sealer worked better.- Top

Re: Re Heater defrost question
It's designed with that air gap between the case and the defroster yoke on purpose, to avoid noise/vibration from the heater case from being transmitted directly to the main dash panel, which would then amplify the sounds. That was standard Chevrolet design practice for many years.- Top
