How were the seat belt grommets on the outer seat belt attached to the carpet? Were they glued or sewn in?

Re: 69 seat belt grommets
They were definitely not sewn in and I don't even think they were glued. I think they were designed so that the "flanges" on the grommets would retain them. However, mine were not very well retained from day-one.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 69 seat belt grommets
FWIW, I've seen many grommets with staples and/or staple holes in them, one on top, one on the bottom.

Re: 69 seat belt grommets
They were some sort of plastic, not rubber. However, they are somewhat pliable so they might be mistaken for rubberIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Jim------
This must have been some sort of "assembly-line-developed interim fix" for the poorly fitting grommets. These things never installed properly and I suppose the assembly line workers had to improvise to do the best they could with them. At the time my car was built (mid-September, 1969) they were not using the staples, at least when my car went down the line.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
