Gene I'm not that schooled on the numbers to know that hopefully someone can chime in!

      Tony,

By my Corvette Specs Guide, a 66 390 with K19 and a 4 speed Trans would have an "IM" suffix code on the engine stamp pad.

With a Powerglide transmission and K19 it would be "IR"

Without KI9, the engine codes above would be "IL" for a 4 speed and "IQ" for a Powerglide.

      Hope this helps,

          Gene -

Yes, there is. The K-19 engines had unique suffixes due to the K19-specific distributor (advance curve), exhaust manifolds, A.I.R. pump mounting bracket, and thermostat, all of which were installed at Flint V-8 (created unique as-shipped engine assembly part numbers for K-19).

But The motor in question that takes the 3370 holley is a 427 and Tonawanda built.

Anthony - if your pad has IL its a 390 HP non smog.

Ok, just got in from the garage, out collecting #s from the car. engine pad has the last 7 of the Vin and T1206IL, so it is not an AIR car, now with that known I will clean up and rebuild the 3140-1 carb dated 584 (could have been on the car new?) and put it on the car. All other #s and dates are correct ALTERNATOR,BLOCK,DIST,TRANS HAVE TO CHECK the DATE ON REAR GEAR. THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE HELPED ME OUT AND EDUCATED ME. NOW JUST NEED TO FIND DOCUMENTATION for the car, it was just 8 years old when i bought it and I did not do anything to it since.

Does anyone else think there is a good chance Chevrolet used that smog carb, perhaps because they could not find enough 3370s, OR someone simply made a mistake.

You know GM made a few mistakes. See DXT's most recent article for C2 wire harness examples (in MI chapter newsletter.)

Tom the smog carb is the 3606 which is on it now and the date on it is 11 months to new, the 3140-1 was in a box of small parts when I bought the car and the date is 3 months before the car was built.

                        Tony,

Actually, the 3140-1 is pretty close to the 3370, and while you are looking for a 3370, you might try it on your car. The jets on the 3140-1 should be changed to 65 jets and the power valve to a 65AS.

Both carbs share the same secondary metering plate, a #17

There may be some difference in the throttle body levers.

Jerry Thanks for the info I think I will do just that untill I can find an original 3370. I agree with you that it should work as well just not the correct #s.
