            Joe,
The red, white and blue on the 3 bar knockoff is interesting.
Is that how they came from the factory?

Why do I think that an early owner of this car either worked for GM Styling/Engineering or was a good friend of Dick Doane?

You will appreciate this. The owner of this car had a $500 down payment on the McLane SR2 ( back in the day ). When he went to pick it up..The designer owner told him GM said he could not sell it.

                ( Johns car today )

The owner of the white Special 57 was an early member of the Detroit Corvette club which was populated by guys from GM. He still loves Corvettes to this day.

Just for fun Joe, What is the vin number? Did you know DAVID KIMBLE, Master Airbrush Automotive Artist, worked for TED HALIBRAND in 1956 building these wheels? It was one of his first jobs.

Not sure if the Halibrand spinners were painted by Halibrand. I doubt it. Need to check other vintage pictures like the Duntov SS racer. The only production cars that left St.Louis with Halibrands were the 6 1956 SR1's ( that I know of )

Next time I talk to Bill, I will ask him. The car is stored in a hangar at a small airport near Chicago. Bill was friends with Joe Pike.

I have seen a few original kidney bean knock-off spinners in the flesh beginning in the early 60's and none had the red, white, and blue ears.

The push-on knock-off spinners used on the bolt-on Halibrands had the recessed area of the three ears painted black.

I have a set of those spinners. I do not know what their linage is. They are not typical of the 1956 Halibrand.
