I think the part number on the back of the buzzer cluster case is 6406122. The one on the non-buzzer is 6405757. I just looked at a late low-horse cluster with a 6405757 case. It does not have the hole for the buzzer tach lead.

If you are correct that all high-horse cars originally had buzzer tachs, Joe, then cars that now have high-horse tachs, but, have no hole and/or p/n 6405757 stamped on the back, are probably ones that have been converted from low-horse cars. But, maybe not....

      Michael,

Just talked to a guy with much more experience rebuilding than myself and he believes that the buzzer tachs were used until the supply was depleted and no more were made. He states that he has rebuilt more high HP tachs without buzzer tachs than with.
Apparently there were some available for FI cars late in the 63 year as my 18,XXX had the buzzer tach with wiring and buzzer.
Really doesn't matter if the 340HP cars had buzzer tachs or not since the majority were never hooked to a buzzer.

Thanks to all for the input. I know for a fact my '63 (October '62, serial #1626) 340 car does not have the buzzer tach but I don't have any documentation that would prove it was born a 340 car.

          JR,

I agree with your buddy. I think the last of the buzzer tach's were probably some time around February 63.
I don't remember exactly when the buzzer unit and wiring disappeared though. Probably during the first three months of production??

The colors of the red line were definitely different on the buzzer tach face.

I have an October '62 340 vert. and it has the buzzer tach with harness and it still works.

Michael, The buzzer and tach were around through November, at least. My Nov 28 car has the tach and buzzer, but no harness. It may have had a harness at one time, tough to tell.

By the way, the pic below is my never-restored buzzer tach. I think it was red and yellow, not sure if it could have faded to yellow if it was originally purple...obviously, those southern California cars never had their tops up...

I also have a virtually new buzzer tach taken from a car in the early 70's, it too is bright red/yellow.

They must have made those tach both ways...

Well, I can tell you for sure that 63 #1664 was a 340 horse that came with a buzzer tach all hooked up and working. My brother in law bought it new off the showroom floor. It came on one night and wouldn't go off. So unhooked it and that was that. That was in 67 or 8. My unrestored FI car #414 buzzer is still hooked up but doesn't work.

                  Michael,

The early high red line buzzer tachs were definitely maroon colored but after the first few hundred they were red/yellow and remained that way throughout the rest of the year.
