Anyone have any info or ever heard of the possible availability of a rev limit warning option on early '63's?

Re: Early '63 rev limit warning alarm???
I believe all 360 and 340 HP engines had a "buzzer tach" early in 63 production. This consisted of a special tach, a separate buzzer, and a harness. The sound was basically inaudible at high RPM due to engine noise, rendering them useless.
Early cars had all three components, later ones had some combination of the three. If you search "buzzer tach" you'll find many discussions of this.- Top

Re: Early '63 rev limit warning alarm???
Hey Nick ! Here's a good post from the forum that John Hickley was involved in. 63's did have this feature.
C1 & C2 Corvettes - 63 Tach buzzer how do they work - I sent my Tach in for repair and the rebuilder called and said the buzzer wont work and there is no repair parts available to make it work. I did not even know I had a buzzer. I received the Tach today and after looking at the buzzer on the back of the Tach I cant...Tom Hendricks

Re: Early '63 rev limit warning alarm???
The sales literature said the "buzzer tach" only applied to the 360 HP FI engine, but Noland Adams' survey (in his book) showed that both (very) early 340 and 360 HP engines had it.
As was stated, it was pretty useless.
I remember a buddy's '81 RX-7 had a wimpy buzzer that sounded at 7K. I made us laugh.

Re: Early '63 rev limit warning alarm???
All,
My 1963 (December '62 built) 340 hp has the buzzer tach. The sound from mine is quite audible contrary Michael's comment regarding the "loudness" of the buzzer. Will try to post a pic.- Top

Re: Early '63 rev limit warning alarm???
All 63 either 340HP or 360HP had the buzzer tach BUT it was not hooked up on some of the 63's. All original 63's with 340HP that I have restored had the buzzer tach. It was only hooked up with the harness and buzzer IF you paid for it.
You must realize that a very large number of 63's have been converted to the high rpm tach. There is where you will find the non buzzer, high RPM tachs. All it takes is someone that can silk-screen.
Not saying our brother NCRS members would do such a thing! No No! It must be that other group of Corvette Drivers!

Re: Early '63 rev limit warning alarm???
Hear is the tach buzzer on my '63 taken during restoration. It mounts just right behind the gauge cluster. As stated in my prior post makes a great deal of noise when activated.

Re: Early '63 rev limit warning alarm???
Joe, you don't happen to have a non-buzzer-tach 63 cluster there somewhere, do you?
...if so, what's the part number stamped on the back?
Thanks,- Top

Re: Early '63 rev limit warning alarm???
Well yes, I do but the PN is on the back of the case and it has been glass-beaded off. I will find one and report back on the numbers for both. The ones for a buzzer does have an extra hole in the back whether it is used or not.
