Well, kudos to you, Cranky! As a matter of fact, I would say, you have set the standard for all those that strive to do it...right. I will readily admit, I'm a moron but, I do love that factory **** quality.
Would you please Rembrandt my engine when the time comes? I'll drive it 'The Swamp' and stay at your house and drink your beer while you do it. No No, I insist....

Michael, yours is much prettier than mine....looks like the paint on the hose must have flaked/burnt off of mine, but there's still traces of orange on itMike

Re: 67 Bypass Hose/Fitting Paint SB
Most of us think we are restoring our cars but really we are rebuilding them. National Corvette Rebuilders Society, same letters still covers it.
I have never seen a restored car be 100% to the same degraded degree as original. I too have my cars better than they were ever new. That is why the judging system is a percentage rating. Nothing is perfect. And if it is perfect it is incorrectly restored. Even the best of the best restored Duntov cars are way better than the original GM workers produced.
On the show field you can look at anything chassis, body, interior, engine, just about anything is done way better than new. NCRS has all kinds of guidelines and charts about paint, or stampings or added options but these just make allowances for incorrect restorations.
The only person that has to be satisified with my restored (or rebuilt) car is me, no matter what the points are .- Top

I understand why many folks want their car to be better than when it was new though. But I also understand why many strive to duplicate exactly "the look" that they had when they rolled off the assy line.- Top

Here's another. This is from a shot of the 66 chassis line at St louis. A 350 HP being installed in the chassis. I'm sure many of you have seen the full size picture. The bypass hose is definitely coated in orange.Last edited by Michael H.; December 5, 2011, 06:14 AM.- Top

Re: 67 Bypass Hose/Fitting Paint SB
When my 63 FI engine was being re-restored in 2006 I kept sending Hanson and Jorjorian progress pics of the engine and engine compartment.
Notes I got back were: Need more orange on the bypass hose and clamps. Much to much displeasure we poured it on. The end result was the engine was/ is accurate except for one major screw up.
I refused to listen to them and others on the exhaust manifolds. They are painted with the usual cast blast crap and that is something I have regretted.
Michael wrote back one day and said, "Need more orange on the exhaust mans JD". I was too dumb to listen.
Michael Garver. Nice photo although it appears at some point the intake manifold was removed. I don't see a tab with the GM logo on the end seal. Or is it there and I missed it.
Those by-pass hose clamps are very hard to find aren't they. Jorjorian donated the ones for my 63, the LWC, as the ones I had were later service replacements. That bypass hose is a typical alligator skin type hose. Also hard to find and seldom seen on a show car. Typical show cars/restored cars have the incorrect bypass hose. Thanks, JD- Top

Re: 67 Bypass Hose/Fitting Paint SB
Notice the texture on that rubber hose. Neat.
Just printed it again wishing it were in color. Did we have color prints back in 63? Probably not but I forget. Thanks, John- Top

Hey! If you're going to have a "paintin party", don't forget us other Gator NCRS guys!
I have some original engine shots of my L-76 63 both in B & W and color slides taken probably w/i the first 500 miles. I'll have to check them. Most any of us that have driven our cars (like mine w/+44k on the odometer) have had to replace our bypass hose at least once, as I did.
