        Phil -

I put LuK RepSet clutches (from Paragon) in both of my 57's many years ago, and they're excellent; I'd do the same thing again if I needed a C1 clutch.

John, I looked on Paragon site they have the 3 finger type for the C1 I assume the LuK 04-084 that is in the LuK catalog is the diaphram type for later (1963)small block cars but should work in a 1960 283.
          Thanks

If you guys used a diaphram type pressure plate, did you reinstall the gorilla spring?

              Tom,
My clutch was replaced sometime in its early life before I got it. The godzilla spring was replaced with a more "friendly" one. John Hinkley did an article I think on the Corvette Restoration site I will see if I can find it tells all that is required which is basically a hardware store door spring.
I have not have any issues with the pedal but then I am not in the high speed shifting and such anymore, well not much anyway.

Paragon offers a 3-finger/coil spring Borg & Beck-type 10.5" replacement, but I don't know why anyone would want one; the other diaphragm offering is a 10.5" LuK (or it used to be), and that's the one I've chosen in the past; it works for any C1, and small-block C2/C3's through 1968.

I didn't - I made an offset bracket that bolted to the same two holes that attached the original upper bracket for the over-center "Godzilla spring", and found a storm door spring that was just the right length to connect to the original frame bracket and function as a return spring to hold the pedal up against the rubber bumper. Or, you can just run a spring straight back to the firewall like the midyear setup. The diaphragm clutch doesn't need the over-center pedal-assist feature.

                    John,

Good idea. I might give it a try. I put a diaphram pressure plate in and have been running it without a return spring with no issues other then the pedal doesn't stay against the bumper. Looks like a good project for this coming weekend.

I'd get a functioning return spring on it ASAP, before you fry the throwout bearing - that's not a fun job to replace.

                        Tom,
Whoever replaced my spring just put a less aggressive one in place of the original spring. I am not sure where they got it from , but is does work. I can remove it by locking on a pair of vice grips, it has a bit of tension but nothing like the original from what I can gather.
