1963 Steel Wheel Date Code and Such

    1. Where do you find the date code on steel wheels?

    2. What's the Kesley Hayes code for the wheels? Is it inside the wheel?

    3. Is there a difference in early and late wheel codes?

    Thanks

Is there something more specific your looking for? Check the archives for pictures of physical attributes of the wheel, inside and out. I also believe there are some pictures of the KH logo and date code.

Thanks Harry. A friend of mine wanted to know if his wheels were original. What's the Kesley Hayes code? Is it 15X5 1/2 K?

      Thanks again.

Stephen. Here is a 63 64 wheel date code. You will find some that are not dated and some that are actually incorrectly dated too.

I did not take this photo, but I use it often when this comes up. A 63 64 wheel is the one on the bottom. Pretty easy to spot compared to the replacements. There are some other good posts on this subject here. If you can't find them, let me know. I will search them out for ya !

            Stephen

Stephen, The wheel code is 15X5 1/2 K for all 63 and 64 wheels. The pic Tom posted of the two wheel configurations is one I put together to depict the difference between an original 63/4 wheel and the more common 8080 service replacement wheel. The 8080 wheel appears otherwise identical to an original 63/4 wheel and they are frequently listed on ebay as "original" 63/4 wheels. Good 63/4 exterior judges know the difference because the back side is visible when mounted on the car.

For clarity, the 15x5 1/2 K is the wheel size.

Below that are the date codes...
