Re: 67 Big Blk Car On E-bay

The handwritten number on the tank sticker is way off considering I have written down the numbers on 6 cars surrounding this one and they are all 2 less than the vin. This one is 20 more than the vin. There could be an explanation, but considering all the other things mentioned...

        Al,

Sent you an email with my thoughts, but just noticed you posted here. Tank sheet is a fabrication (in addition to the "138" there is another dead give-away). Also, the VIN tag rivets and tag itself are questionable. Look at the size of the "CHEVROLET DD" compared to a standard production tag.

Heads are obviously later model (though they kindly painted over the sender in the driver's side head to obscure it).

Sent you a link to photos of a very nice L-68 car I am serious about buying, please review and let me know what you think.

        Kind Regards,

        Nick

Not excusing the seller in any manner, but nowhere does he state that the 427/435 status or paperwork is real, genuine, original, authentic, or any of the other words that might go in that direction. It appears that your bid did not cause the auction to reach reserve but otherwise you may have been on the hook.

The questions for this car are:
            1. Was the car born as a black/black 435?
            2. Is there value to a car being an original 435 that no longer has its original engine?
            3. Even recognizing it as a NOM car, would it be worth about $90K as presented?
            Mark,
My guess to your questions are
            1. Probably not
            2. Yes, IF it was born as a 435 and more so if it was a black one.
3.Yes, again if it was a real documented black 435 but from looking at the trim tag and docs, I would stay away or to quote Dick, run Forest!

I'm not following your logic here. When someone offers documentation with a car isn't he implying that it is for the purpose of authenticating the car?

Re: 67 Big Blk Car On E-bay

Aged looking tank and window stickers are openly available on eBay and elsewhere and can be ordered with any list of options the buyer might fancy, without legal implication. Bogus trim tags are openly available and carry no legal implications. Restamped engines are openly available and carry no etc etc.

Buying a car sight unseen and presuming the seller is implying or not implying something critical is taking a huge risk IMHO.

The seller does state that the car is 'original side pipe', 'original AM/FM radio'. Nowhere does it mention 'original engine type'.

I think there's quite difference between being technically a violation of the law, and simply being honest and ethical.

Arguably the seller doesn't appear to be outwardly lying about the car, as Mike indicates.
If the tank sticker and window sticker are in fact "aged" fakes, they have absolutely no business being depicted in this auction listing, ...... in my opinion.

Re: 67 Big Blk Car On E-bay

Agreed. But- the seller may or may not have a clue about the history of the car and may simply be repeating the same story he received when buying the car. Maybe some piece of the car or paperwork really started life as a 427/435 and has been incorporated with the bits of other cars into what's being sold in the auction. Or a thousand other 'maybes'.

Apparently basic 'due diligence' was not done in questioning any of these possibilities.

Sure looks like a '67 that came out of CHEVY Craft in Lubbock TX in the early '90's Chevey Craft is long gone - BILL C loved triple black Vetts, Chevelles '58 & '57 - just my 2 cents worth- if so a rust free west tx '"tribute" car !!

All this fuss over a high priced piece of plastic. Was the car ever judged? Maybe that's where the wheels started to fall off and the seller is looking for a sucker?

Ridge nailed it - honest and ethical, nothing more to say.

I think we will see alot of these made cars come up for sale in the future.
This usually happens when the car flippers pull out of the market as nobody wants to get caught with their money in a questionable BB/67 IMHO
