Keep an eye out for the correct pulley size, sometimes small blocks and big blocks used different pulleys! Check out Group 9.180 in the parts book! The superheat switch started in 72.

      Scott,
L26 could mean Dec 2, 1966 if it has no thermal switch on the back plate.

      G3? could mean July 3, ?

      Hope this helps.

          Anthony,

We do them here in our shop but the rings are not available.

I recently took one apart that was still in the box from a well known place in Florida and all they did was put seal's in it and did not rebuild a thing.

I called them and asked if they had metal rings and the said they did not for some time.

I have found that the rebuilds are only seal jobs at rebuild prices.

This is what a real rebuild looks like.

We are looking into having the rings made by a independent ring co.

I know exactly who you are talking about. Thanks for that picture. Is this something you do? If you can get the rings you are referring to let me know I would like to have the correct compressor rebuilt.

              Tony,

All the other parts are available (so far) and the rings can be re-used if the end gap is under .010.

I don't like to do that as it is not a true rebuild but the rings run oiled by the gas all the time and last forever.

I have found that the thrust bearings (2 of them ) take the brunt of BuBa's damage when the clutch or pulley bearings get replaced.

They use a hammer to re-install those parts and flatten the thrust bearings. I have even seen the shaft that is pressed into the swash plate that runs the pistons moved till the pistons hit the reed plate.

All has to be measured to get them right.

More likely the alphanumeric codes (G6) are tool number and cavity number codes. Remember these compressors were being built in this era at about a 1,000,000 per year volume, and the Corvette backplate is not unique.
