    Tire size 70 corvette

I know that on later C3s they could fit a 255 60 15 tire as a factory option.

    Will a 255 60 15 fit a 70 C3 without a problem?

    Thanks,

    Bill

Probably work if you do not mind tearing all the fender lips off. 225-70X15 will work fine. 235 might work if your suspension has not settled too much

Thanks Dick. I thought that was the case and that later C3 fenders were slightly modified for wider tire.

I had a chance to but a brand new set locally for $200.00 which is the only reason IO asked.

          Hi Michael,

R the fenders all original? Do you have pictures?

          Now I am confused.

We have 225's on the '72 and in a hard turn, the front tires will scrub at times

              HI Dick,

This whole tire thing gets me crazy

I know the 225s are taller than original. The 255s are the correct diameter but of course wider.

The 225's are a direct replacement for the F70's according to my tire catalog

Mine says 215 or 225. I even noticed slight differences in dimensions between firestone and B.F.Goodrich Radial TAs.

Firestone Indy 500 255 60 15 has tread width of 8.3" and TAs have tread width of 9". Section widths are the same at 10.1"

Wonder if that is why some 255 60 15s work and some do not.

1970 cars are 41 years old and will soon be 42 in 2012, some front suspensions are different. I have used the 255/60-15 Goodyear Eagle's on my 1970 since the 1980's. I put 4 new ones on in June 2010, previous set gave me 49,000 miles.

                      Thanks Jim,

That is two 70 corvettes with 255 60 15s that work. My suspension is 100% stock so I guess I will try the 255s.

The price is right for sure.

Bill, as far as fender mods go my '78 SA was ordered with 255X60's but due to a shortage the tires were not delivered on the car, got the 225's instead. The rear fender lips were roughly ground on the inside. In '77 when Good Year retailers began selling 255X60 radial GT's I put a set on my '77 with FE-7 suspension and had very minimal rubbing while autocrossing. Later when I installed Guldstrand SB racing front and rear springs, Greenwood Koni adjustable shocks (set on most firm setting), swapped out front anti-sway bar, and installed 8 1/2 inch wheels they never rubbed. But, I have noticed over the years the height and width of the same size tires do change, sometimes what I consider to be considerable.

                          Steve

Do they scrub more when you go through the back wall of the garage?
