My August 1969 built L36 w/ THM400 and w/o AC has the short handled dip stick.

      Joe,

Is the white plug the latest info because the third edition 68-69 TIM&JG says it was a red plug for 427, black for small block?

        Greg-----

Personally, I doubt that any 1969 ever originally used a red plug dipstick. However, if they did, it would have been the longer blade dipstick and not the one you have.

Regarding the short handle dipstick in a BB, I have never seen anything other than a white plug. I've seen cars where owners tried to please the JG by having a red plug but, real BB short handled dipsticks have white plugs, including 68.

          I'm just sayin'...

It is my firm belief that red plugged dipsticks (and their associated dipstick tube) are SERVICE for 1969 Corvettes.

However, someone using a red-plugged SERVICE dipstick (and tube) on a 1969 might be clever to install a WHITE plug on said dipstick. This might generate a "cursory illusion" that the dipstick is original. Installing a red plug on an original white-plugged dipstick is "doing it backwards" and "counterproductive".

My June 69 L88 build has the short dipstick. You judged the car years ago when Vic Priesler owned it.

Steve, I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, much less the Corvettes I have judged in years past.

I judged two 1969s at the Wisconsin Chapter meet and each had the different dip stick. That was what caused me to take notice of the difference, and ask you guys for help.

                  Terry,
I understand, I remember Vic telling me that when you went with him for PV, that you guys enjoyed the full throttle part of the road test

Now that I should have remembered.

I do remember Jeff Reid taking me for a ride on the streets of Anaheim in his L88. No PV just a real fun ride. I must have been all business with Vic.
