Re: Tank Sticker Number Written with a Pencil?
Chuck:
This statement is not correct.
The tank sticker handwritten numbers can be up to "three" numbers, and they can be off from the corresponding VIN numbers by anywhere from 0 to 5 (or 500 and 505). However, the typical difference for most cars is 1 or 2 (501 or 502).
This difference appears somewhat random to me, but was obviously related to what was happening (or not happening) on the assembly line at St Louis.
Al Grenning and others have these differences documented and also when they occurred throughout the years. This information helps them to validate the tank stickers.
