    Starter for '69 427/435

Looking for a starter for my '69 427/435 and see that they sometimes come in aluminum vs. cast iron nose. Which is correct for my '69(manufactured in Nov '68)?
    Thanks,
    Jack

One other thing, does my engine require a high torque starter, i.e. should I be looking to get something other than a standard rebuilt starter? Any suggestions?

A 435 definitely used a high torque starter. According to the judging manual 427's used an iron nose starter with starter nose #1969309

Your best bet to find a starter that is real and not a restamp is John Pirkle pirklesr@aol.com

Unless you're really interested in the "correct numbers" and "dates", you can easily obtain a re-manufactured starter with otherwise exact original configuration for a very modest price. You do need a 'high torque' style with a cast iron nose. The high torque style is easily identified by a 1" copper spacer located between the starter's field coil terminal and the solenoid.

AC-Delco offers a high quality rebuilt unit under GM #1876552, aka Delco #323-254. Except for "numbers" and "dates", this starter will be virtually identical to the original. Expect to pay less than 100 bucks, including core charge, from an AC Delco dealer.
