    Re: Late 60 trunk mat

Romeo Engineering does only have the early version of this mat. My car was built March 23, 1960. So I will need the late mat. Thank you.

        Re: Late 60 trunk mat

I've got good news. I got a message from Al Knoch that they are planning on reproducing the late 1960 trunk mat by 2014. So I will wait patiently.

Still hope to find a blue trunk mat for my 60 Corvette. Seems to take years until a correct repro will be available.

            Re: Late 60 trunk mat

Still haven't found a late 60 trunk mat (original or reproduction) in blue. I hope sometime in the future they might become available as reproductions.

If anyone has a lead to an original 60 trunk mat (in blue) - that would be great.

            Thank you.

              Re: Late 60 trunk mat

              Hi all,

All 1956-mid 1960 Corvettes used the same divider and mat made to accommodate a power top whether the car had one or not and that worked fine. So, my question would be this: Since we know that the new '61 new tail and trunk design was in the works for at least a year or two before production, why in the world would anyone at Chevrolet authorize issuance of a new division panel and a new trunk mat just for non-power top cars when only a few months of 1960 production remained before the 1961 model changeover??

Because the vendor was the GM President's son-in-law? Very good question.

                  Re: Late 60 trunk mat

Digging this old thread up. It looks as there are still no reproductions of the late 1960 trunk mat available...

I am still searching for one for my 1960 Corvette (in blue). To throw that black, ugly mat away which is in the trunk at the moment

Anybody have any news about these trunk mats? Help appreciated to locate an original one or suitable reproduction.

                  Thank you

                  Best regards

                  Ruedi

                    Ruedi,

For some sort of concours, non-NCRS judging, your solution is simple. Buy an earlier bulged division panel and the earlier bulged Romeo mat and no one will ever know. You're going to wait a long time otherwise.

The cost of making molds for parts like this is astronomical. I very seriously doubt if anyone will ever make one. The late '60 mats are for just a few cars and the buyers are only a tiny fraction of the remaining cars that someone is restoring. You mention a black mat. Is that an original? If so, it is likely to be in a dozen or more pieces, or will be if put in and out of the trunk much. If it has the fine diamond pattern on the back, it is probably original. If it doesn't, then shave off the part number, spray your mat with vinyl dye and restamp with the original part number in black.

If anyone has an original mat they'd like to sell, I'd be interested because that is one of a few things I am focusing on. If anyone has any questions on a mat, I'd need a pic of the back, a pic of the part number, a pic of the US in a circle and a pic of the date in a circle.

                    Bob
