    Late 60 trunk mat

I am unable to find the correct red trunk mat for my late 60. Can anyone suggest which of the two that are currently available (Romeo or Al Knock) would be the better choice. If you have had your car judged with either, can you give me an idea of the point deduction.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Bob,
I've ordered from both. Knoch is musch easier to work with. Romeo has problems delivering product, but does have a nice product, Knock is supposed to have the correct mat soon, might want to wait unless you need it now

I seem to remember that Al K has been stating for a while that the correct 1960 mat is coming out soon. I never called him to ask how soon.

I am also looking for a correct 1960 late trunk mat (without power-top) in blue. The last time I called Al Knoch, they did not have a reproduction.

Romeo Engineering web site indicates "Original appearance top and underside, with all original markings." Blue is $265. I have an Al Knoch 1960 trunk mat I purchased in 1991 and it does not have the correct markings on the top and no diamond pattern on the bottom. I believe Al is still making the same mat.

Also the Romeo Engineering trunk mat is just for the early 1960 Corvettes. Hopefully the 1960 late trunk mat will be reproduced soon.

What's the diff. (early vs. late) please?
              Is March '60 early?
              Thanks.

Tom, the difference is that early cars used the divider panel with the bulge for the power top equipment. The mat was also designed to fit the bulge. The 58-60 TIM & JG indicate the switch over was about VIN 4,700. My 60 is early and I ended up ordering a mat from Corvette Central and it was a Romeo mat. I kept checking with Knoch but the last I checked they still didn't have tooling to make the correct mats.

I am also waiting to see if they come out with the correct one. My 1960 Corvette is late May 1960, so will need the late mat. I have a very brittle original one and two reproduction ones that I have picked up over the years, all late mats, all in blue. If they don't make a new correct one, I will have to decide which one to use when it is time for Judging. I hope to have it done for a few Chapter meets and a regional before the 2014 National in Kansas City!

I will also wait until the late blue trunk mat is reproduced. Please let me know as soon as this is the case, thank you. At the moment I have a black trunk mat in my 1960 Horizon blue car.

At the moment there is a late 1960 trunk mat (for cars without PowerTop) on Ebay. If this proves to be the real deal, somebody could have it reproduced, or not? I would need this thing but in blue. Could you please have a look at this red one, if this is right. http://www.ebay.com/itm/19561960-COR...-/330903491175

I have an Horizon Blue also, that is being judged today and Bowtie sign off at BG. My Blue mat is original to the car. No power top. No bulge in the mat that i remember but I'll make sure today. Vin is 5884, first week of April.

Ruedi, that is not an original 1960 trunk mat. The original non-black mats had the part number stamped in ink, not embossed. The back of the originals had a tiny diamond pattern. I have a mat just like it that I purchased from Al Knoch in 1991.

Hello Joe, Thank you for the info. I just noticed that it doesn't have the usual bulge, so it is for a non-Power Top. I did not look in the Restorers guide, so the search will go on.
