Hi, Does the Telescopic Column on the 65 have and spring and clamp like the standard columns? AIM does not show a lower view for the telescopic column so normally I would assume it is the same as standard but wanted to make sure before I install. My telescopic column did not come with any. Thanks Mike

Re: Tele Steering Column 1965
The 1965 - 66 telescoping column has a groove in the solid steering shaft with a round wire ring, a thin flat washer, and a spring holding the lower bearing in place. The spring has some type of felt packing on it's outside diameter.

Re: Tele Steering Column 1965
Here is the best that I can do on the 1965-66 Corvette Telescoping Steering Column lower bearing assembly.
The quality of the drawing is just not that great. I added several part call outs so that all the parts are identified. The spring appears to be about 1/8 inch wire and is nearly compressed to solid height.
Saginaw manufactured the 1965-66 telescoping steering column. Chevrolet designed (and somebody manufactured or St. Louis assembled) the standard (non-adjustable) 1963-66 steering column. I am fairly sure that Saginaw probably copied the lower bearing design from the already in-production standard column for their telescoping column.
Saginaw only manufactured adjustable (telescoping, tilt, and tilt & telescoping) steering columns until they became the 100% supplier of GM passenger car steering columns (both standard and adjustable) in 1967 with the introduction of the first generation, energy absorbing, collapsible steering columns.
