Better idea is a good quality carbon wire. Believe it or not, (and I just KNOW I'll get an arguement on this) carbon wires actually perform better than solid wires.
most all electronic ignition systems including MSD tell you not to use solid metallic spark plug wire as it could interfere with the ignition module

I guess Bill and others are right about Lectric Limited wires from a short time back as mine, put on in the mid 90's, are still going strong too. I have no problems reaching redline at any time, no radio problems, etc., but then with my Pertronix II Electronic Ignition and Flamethrower coil, I've only changed plugs once since then (about 10k miles). I went to Champs because I was afraid the AC's would rust into the heads after so many years.

I agree with Michael, back in the day Packard 440 wire was all the rage and it messed up radios even in tri5 Chevies, say nothing about Vettes. My folks could always tell when I was a block away from home by my signal on the TV; here comes Stu!

Can you explain the term "pure junk"?

I have 'Lectric Limited dated repro wires on both my '64 and '65; the ''64 has been driven to Bowling Green Regional meet in 2004, Park City in 2005 and St. Charles in 2008 with not a single problem. So far they have performed excellent.

        Thanks,

After installed car ran terrible, a hard miss. Closed the garage door and turned off the lights. Started the engine and had two wires arching. I used some heat shrink to cover the the areas affected.

This could have been an isolated case but it always seems to happen to me.

Called Lectric Limited and they only sale sets. I was told I could take them off and return them for inspection, yada, yada.

I took them off after the Regional.

At the very least, the cable production has been outsourced to another manufacturer. Thus the wires being sold today in reproduction may have little resemblence in design or performance to those sold when the reproductions were originally introduced and the parts available from the original OEM source.
Bill, Delphi is still in the Packard wire business & US made. Unfortunatly not ALL the repo wires are using Packard wire-they're using Chinese wire which breaks.

When I installed the repro LL wires on my 63 engine one end pulled off when I removed it from the spark plug. I called LL and was instructed to send the wire back and they either replaced or repaired, I can't remember.

I can remember they were a little difficult to deal with on the phone but they made good on it. Use some dielectric grease on the plugs so the boots don't stick.
