    Best quality reproduction plug wires?

So from a thread I started on the other forum it would seem many people have issued with some of the reproduction spark plug wire sets. CC is being kind enough to replace just my #4 wire after the metal connector in the boot remained stuck to the end of my spark plug. That's a first in all my years of working on cars.

So my question, who makes the best top-notch quality exact reproduction spark plug wire set for a '56 that will pass judging? I don't want to be fishing these damn things through these boomerang shields again for a long time. I'm not sure who the maker is of the CC wire set but there must be better out there. Don't make me save for a set of NOS wires that I may never find lol!

    Thanks!

    Alex,

Might consider using all copper wires such as Packard 440, reuse the boots from a repro set and have an ink stamp made with the wiring logo and restamp the copper wires.

Shouldn't have any problem passing Judging with the proper ink stamp, proper boots and black wire. JMTCW,

    Gary

Letric Limited supplies the wires to many (if not all) of the companies, such as Paragon.

Not exactly true. They (Paragon) have a nondated wire that is made using real Packard wire, as an alternative.

get one of these spark plug boot pullers to prevent pulling the wires apart. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedw...ler,51514.html you may also find them at the local auto parts

First changing the wires with all the heat shields is a PITA and time consuming so plan to do it just once.

I had reproduction wires, SB 69 from Lectric Limited that were pure junk. I used them for judging and then replaced them. Broke my rule and changed them twice!

I am with Gary, Packard and stamp the dates on them.

                  Erv,

Can you explain the term "pure junk"?

I have 'Lectric Limited dated repro wires on both my '64 and '65; the ''64 has been driven to Bowling Green Regional meet in 2004, Park City in 2005 and St. Charles in 2008 with not a single problem. So far they have performed excellent.

                  Thanks,

Yup. Put them on my 70 years ago and have not had one problem. Don't know if I'm just lucky or what.

you may have the answer, the ones made years ago may be of better quality. also graphite string made wires have to be handled very carefully so not to damage them pulling them thru heat shields and wire separators is something you should not do.

if you use packard 440 which i remember is solid stainless steel wire conductor you better have a radio delete corvette.

And all your friends around you will wish you had a no radio car too. And the folks that live next door.

Better idea is a good quality carbon wire. Believe it or not, (and I just KNOW I'll get an arguement on this) carbon wires actually perform better than solid wires.

You all need to keep in mind that the packard Electric dividsion of GM-Subsequently a part of Delphi Corp, who originally worked with 'lectric Limited on the reproduction wires and sold them the components and cable is no longer in the high-tension (sparkplug) wiring business to the best of my knowledge. At the very least, the cable production has been outsourced to another manufacturer. Thus the wires being sold today in reproduction may have little resemblence in design or performance to those sold when the reproductions were originally introduced and the parts available from the original OEM source.
