    69 Fuses

    In the Judging Guide it provides a description for the fuses;

    10A - Red Stripe
    20A - Clear
    25A - White Stripe

But it does not address the 5A for the "INST" "LPS" service.

What color if any is the 5A fuse?

Also would request a good picture of the fuse block if someone has it handy.

I hope this pic shows the detail you are looking for. I don't think the 5A fuse has a color stripe due it's small size.

I did not know this until recently but, the 5 amp fuse has a brown dob of paint and can be either on the inside or outside.

I'll try to get a pic of mine sometime today and post it.

What I probably should say is the 5 amp has been seen with the brown marking. That is not to say they all are.

Good grief. I wonder how many of those I missed on my bone yard safaris for colored fuses ? Have to plan another safari.

Re: 69 Color Coded Glass Fuses

Erv - The COLOR CODE stripe, when required*, specified for the 5A 1AG OR AGA .650" long glass fuse PART NO. 9426863 is TAN. The color coded BUSS glass fuses stamped BUSS AGA 5 on the side of one of the metal ends I have seen have a TAN dot on the outside of the glass not a stripe on the inside of the glass like the 1.250" long BUSS color coded glass fuses.

*A NOTE indicates the "FOR .625 FUSE LENGTHS, A .12 MIN. DIA. IDENTIFYING DOT MAY BE USED OPTIONALLY IN LIEU OF A STRIPE.

The color coding was used in the process for loading the FUSE PANELs at Packard and of course in NCRS judging of 1967 and newer Corvettes that used the glass fuses and while a TAN stripe on the inside of the glass would probably be OK for manufacturing, it would certainly present a problem in visually inspecting to see if the 5A fuse was blown because the stripe would pretty much cover the exposed glass portion of the .650" long fuses. Those Fuse Engineers were always looking out for us owners and restorers.

              Thanks for the clarification.

Always more information to pencil in my third edition of the TIMJG.

You are in trouble now. That looks like a missing part from Fat Man or maybe Little Boy.

                          Re: 69 Fuses

I remember the back page of an issue of The Corvette Restorer that had photos of four fuse blocks because there was a story inside about the colored fuses. At that time, probably around 2004 maybe, we could only print color on the cover, so I had to put them there since Black & White photos would not do justice to a story about fuse colors.
